Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk Management

Victoria, BC

With over $250.4 billion of gross assets under management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of the largest institutional investors in Canada.

Since its inception in 2000, BCI has grown significantly and is now regarded as one of the most influential financial institutions globally, investing across a range of asset classes and strategies in public and private markets.

BCI employs over 700 people across offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York and London. Being recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers and BC’s Top Employers exemplifies BCI’s ongoing commitment to be a progressive workplace of choice;

one that attracts, retains, and promotes talent so that we can continue to work towards helping British Columbian public sector clients build financially secure futures.

The Corporate Risk & Audit (CR&A) department is responsible for providing analysis and insight on BCI’s risk exposures, governance, and control practices.

The department is comprised of three branches Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Internal Controls, and Internal Audit. The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) branch is responsible for administering the ERM program and supporting the Board and management in overseeing non-investment risks and their potential impact on the corporation's activities and strategy.

ERM also administers BCI’s insurance program and supports the establishment of an effective crisis response capability. Unlike many financial service organizations, BCI is not regulated, which allows the Corporate Risk & Audit functions to be agile, pragmatic, and focus on value-added insights for the business rather than simply a check-the-box’ function.

As BCI continues to grow, the complexity of the organization and significance of effective risk management has only increased.

As a result, BCI is now seeking a talented risk leader to join the organization as the Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk Management to further augment and bring expertise to the ERM function.

Reporting to the Director, ERM and Internal Controls, the Senior Manager, ERM is a strategic leader and expert in enterprise risk management, providing specialized knowledge and guidance in collaboration with the ERM team.

The Senior Manager drives results and ensures the ERM program is focused on changing risk priorities as they develop. The Senior Manager engages with senior stakeholders across the organization to ensure risks are identified, assessed, managed, monitored, and reported.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced risk management leader who has demonstrated expertise in enterprise risk management and a track record of managing stakeholder relationships, mentoring staff, and communicating risk-related information to a variety of audiences.

Experience in the investment and financial services sector is required as the candidate will need to quickly get up to speed on BCI’s objectives, risks, strategies and operations.

The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative, creative and commercially-minded relationship builder and strong communicator who brings strong critical thinking and leadership abilities.

The role is based in BCI’s office in Victoria, BC and the Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk Management will have a chance to join a world-class organization and culture which has been recognized as One of Canada’s Top 100 Employers.

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this role based in Victoria is CAD $120,000-$145,000.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
