Position Overview :
General Fusion is searching for an Entry-Level Electronics Technician to join our electronics team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, self-starting individual with a solid foundation in basic mechanical, electrical, and electronics fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting. This position will work with various electromechanical systems supporting plasma diagnostics, machine operations, and control systems in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Reporting to the Manager, Electronics, this role will provide first line hands-on support for electronics and electrical troubleshooting, assembly and installation, and day-to-day lab maintenance. The successful individual will collaborate closely with our engineering team to ensure the smooth operation of our test beds, gain exposure to advanced fusion technologies, and expand your skill set in a highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Serve as the first point of contact for electronic troubleshooting; escalate complex issues to senior engineers as needed.
- Assist engineers with procurement, setup, programming, testing and / or installation of diagnostics, and basic electronics, electrical or electromechanical systems.
- Assemble electronics, electrical or electromechanical components according to design specifications, including mounting components, wiring, and labeling.
- Install and maintain electronics hardware, including post-installation documentation and recording final system assessments or any issues.
- Collect and analyze data; apply critical observation skills to results, take active role in interpreting results, and provide feedback for improvement of equipment.
- Independently gather information from engineering staff to complete tasks and projects efficiently.
- Assist lab owner maintain an organized, safe, and efficient lab environment, including -
- Managing inventory of components, tools, and supplies
- Labeling and storing materials in an orderly manner
- Ensuring equipment calibration, cleanliness, and readiness for use
- Contribute proactively to a positive work environment while championing safe work practices.
Relevant Skills and Experience :
Required :
Diploma in Electrical, Control Systems or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institute1 year directly relevant experienceFamiliarity with basic mechanical hand tools (cordless drills, manual drivers, hand files, etc.)Proficiency with electronic assembly and diagnostic tools (soldering irons, crimping tools, and digital multimeters)Demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, and solve basic system and equipment issuesAbility to produce and / or interpret, mechanical and / or electrical documentation.Good organizational skills and a keen eye for detailPride in quality workmanship to facilitate easier future troubleshootingWorking knowledge of Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Slack and SharePoint (or comparable software)Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectivelyCommitment to safe work practices in a lab or R&D environmentSelf-motivated, takes initiative, and follows through on assigned tasksGrowth mentality and willingness to learnPreferred :
Basic machine shop training (bandsaws, drill press, table saw, etc.)Experience working with a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment in a demanding and fast-paced R&D lab environmentFamiliarity with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical) or PCB design software (e.g., Altium 365)Working knowledge of lab instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, function generators, bench power supplies, etc.)Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Assembly, etc.)The typical hiring range for this position is $58,000 - $65,000. General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation include job specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
