The opportunity

The Manager, Mortgage Underwriting draws on their expertise in underwriting and fulfillment, to lead and mentor a team of underwriters! This position is accountable for managing mortgage loan operation volume and compliance for insured and conventional mortgages in a sales-oriented and customer service-oriented manner on broker originated opportunities

This key hands-on leadership role is responsible for exceeding service level agreements and expected turnaround times and as such, autonomy, and authority to make decisions fall within the scope of this role. Trust and credibility is paramount to achieving the strategic business objectives for Optimum Mortgage and home ownership for our borrowers, all while upholding our brand values and integrity!

Areas of focus

Underwriting. Risk Management. Compliance. Customer Service. Coach & Mentor.

  • Identify and implement internal refinance strategies and programs to increase the annual amount of refinanced funds
  • Trusted Financial Partner. Underwrite, price, and set terms and condition items on conventional and high ratio, Alt-A caliber and A caliber residential mortgage applications originating from CWB Optimum’s broker network
  • Be instrumental in ensuring referral source satisfaction by collaborating with teams to provide excellent customer service, fair adjudication, out of the box thinking and strong communication
  • Be quick, don’t hurry. Share our client’s sense of importance while ensuring smooth delivery to our clients
  • Lead. Provide formal and informal coaching / mentorship to your team and provide vital sales, service, and underwriting skills to achieve performance goals.
  • Encourage trust by being open, transparent, and direct in communication, meeting commitments and behaving ethically in all dealings.
  • Make decisions guided by common sense and sound business judgement

Foundational knowledge and experience to grow from

  • Diploma in business
  • Minimum 7 years of financial experience, including 3 years of leadership experience in the financial services industry with a demonstrated history of exceeding performance targets and 2 years residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • Experience with a variety of mortgage products such as Conventional mortgages, High-Ratio Insured mortgages, and HELOC products.
  • Skills and competencies that will take you further

  • Demonstrated ability to lead & develop employees in a positive and highly effective team environment
  • Solid understanding of CWBFG lending protocols and required operational procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and with proven ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills; written and verbal.
