Job description

POSITION PURPOSE :

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Digital, Design and Public Relations, is responsible for conducting research to identify opportunities to profile the Region and promote its services; representing the Region at public events and fostering strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support the Region’s corporate-led public relations efforts; provides leadership and guidance as it relates to corporate outreach activities, including chairing committees, delivering training, customizing public materials and presentations to promote, protect and profile the Region’s brand and services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies, plans and coordinates opportunities to increase the Region’s profile in the community through the coordination and participation in public outreach and community engagement events within the Region.
  • Responsible for overseeing the Region’s corporate merchandise procurement, including managing internal and external sales in accordance with the Region’s internal chargeback procedures.
  • Leads the coordination and oversight of targeted focus groups and resident surveys to inform the public outreach activities.
  • Identifies and supports the development of corporate communication efficiencies, support systems, controls, directives and improvements to maintain and enhance the Region’s presence to ensure stakeholder communication across the departments are aligned and effective; including, corporate communication management systems; corporate-led initiatives; corporate-wide publications and communication plans, supporting the Region’s brand and management.
  • Chairs internal community engagement team, providing leadership and guidance to maximize the Region’s profile and impact at public events, including sharing best practices and industry trends.
  • Oversees corporate-led advertising, including identifying and advertising in specialty publications and providing support for the Region’s coordinated media buying program.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with community agencies, local municipalities and others to strengthen and increase the effectiveness of the Regions public relations / outreach efforts.
  • Represents the Region at public and corporate events and is responsible for ensuring representation aligns with corporate branding and messaging
  • Supports and coordinates corporate events including Annual Take Our Kids to Work Day event and no less than two communication focused conferences, as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with brand and department objectives

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated event management skills and the ability to foster collaborative working relationships with cross-functional teams and staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written to communicate with staff, the public and community partners.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with leveraging traditional media ( print) and new media ( social media) to effectively support public relations programs.
  • Demonstrated people skills chairing committees, facilitating training, setting priorities and meeting deadlines and budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience with monitoring and measurement to support the evaluation of brand management and engagement efforts
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Standards, Acts and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative / self-management, accountability, and flexibility / adaptability.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, including weekends, as required.
  • Ability to lift and set up at indoor and outdoor events. Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
