Job description

Our client withing legal lending services requires a Litigation Law Clerk to join their team. Reporting to the Legal Associate (lawyer) the Litigation Law Clerk will play a crucial role supporting the legal team by providing administrative support in various tasks. This position will offer rotational experience across the various sub-practice areas within our legal department.

Responsibilities :

  • Assisting with maintenance of corporate records of the company and all its affiliates;
  • Assisting with annual corporate filings;
  • Assisting with preparation of corporate resolutions;
  • Preparing necessary forms and documents for required filings and other miscellaneous forms;
  • Preparing documentation for incorporation, amendment, amalgamation, dissolution and extra-provincial filings;
  • Assisting with PPSA searches and filings;
  • Preparing minutes and resolutions relating to ordinary course matters, such as annual approvals;
  • Preparation and filing of pleadings including Statements of Claims and Motions;
  • Preparation of Affidavits of Documents and document briefs;
  • Scheduling of motions and hearings; and
  • Other special projects and tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 4- 5 years law clerk experience in-house or in a law firm setting.
  • Diploma or Degree from a recognized Ontario Law Clerk program certified with The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario
  • The ability to maintain a composed attitude while working in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision, on multiple tasks;
  • A discrete and professional approach with the ability to work on confidential matters;
  • The ability to manage timelines, adhere to schedules, and manager processes;
  • The ability to analyze and interpret information contained in business related documents, write reports and business correspondence, and effectively relay / present information accordingly;
  • The ability to communicate professionally in both verbal and written exchanges;
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team;
  • A keen attention to detail;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel;
  • Experience filing and completing forms in multiple jurisdictions;
  • Expert knowledge of maintenance of minute books, corporate records and annual filings;
  • Work requires a high degree of mental effort to analyze situations and verify information’
  • Work is generally performed in an office environment with some flexibility to work from home.
