- Collect blood, tissue or other samples from patients
- Conduct chemical analyses of blood, urine and other body fluids
- Document observations on patients' specimens
- Examine the results of the tests
- Log patient samples and prepare them for testing
- Conduct routine laboratory tests and sample analyses
- Establish procedures for analysis of specimens and for medical laboratory experiments
- Clean and maintain medical laboratory and laboratory equipment
- Perform blood group, type and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes
- Conduct quality control assessment of testing techniques
- Set up medical laboratory equipment
