Role Responsibilities
The Training Academy (TA) promotes excellence in training and instructor development by establishing training standards, and in partnership with stakeholders, facilitating the delivery of induction programs and other courses for peace officers in Alberta.
As the Training Coordinator for Police Development Training (PDT), you will guide the delivery of this complex and highly specialized training to support the implementation of the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (APSP). The Police Development Training Coordinator will work in conjunction with the PSES Training Academy(TA) Management and other stakeholders to ensure training programs meet Police recruit standards of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP) and the Ministry.
As a team lead coordinating and supervising the activities of contracted Instructors, the Training Coordinator must have policing experience, be aware of and understand operational requirements of training and also those of associated stakeholders. A constant focus on professionalism and the safety of PSES personnel in any training capacity is paramount. The Training Coordinator will ensure all course curricula reflect best practices and defined course standards, as established for police recruit training, and that course delivery meets TA standards. You will undertake content revisions as needed to address evolving operational requirements.
Working within applicable legislation, policies, and procedures, the Criminal Code, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and all provincial and federal statutes, the Training Coordinator ensures alignment under the Police Act.
