Job description

ERM is hiring a consulting Land Use and Permitting Planner to work remotely in the Toronto, Canada region at a key technology client, to support land development and permitting strategy development and execution; stakeholder engagement; utility connection / construction / development agreements; integrated project planning; and contract and budget management for the lifecycle delivery of datacenter development. This role will require regular engagement with key client stakeholders, as well as strategic engagement with regulatory agencies and other external stakeholders. This is a full-time (40 hours) limited-term role, for a duration of 18 months.

Responsibilities :

The successful candidate will :

  • Manage the permitting and approvals process for a portfolio of projects to enable new datacenter development and construction throughout region.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments during due diligence, design and construction to identify regulatory requirements and associated risks.
  • Coordinate with key internal counterparts including land development, design, construction, operations and environmental team leaders to develop comprehensive and integrated permitting and project delivery strategies and schedules.
  • Communicate key risks, mitigations, and policies to internal client stakeholders.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to drive innovative solutions to resolve schedule delays.
  • Develop engagement strategies and represent client in key meetings with applicable Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), external stakeholders, and the public to facilitate datacenter development.
  • Own key strategic relationships with AHJs, government officials and other key external stakeholders and act as a single point of contact for all discussions around permitting, planning approvals, and pre-construction delivery.
  • Support the development of program tools and processes to continuously improve the delivery of permits, approvals, and entitlements for datacenter development.
  • Educate the project team on permitting requirements to ensure timely approvals and compliance.
  • Manage permit approval conditions to ensure compliance.
  • Key Metrics will include permitting and delivery timeline predictability.

Qualifications : Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience delivering large scale and / or complex land development projects.
  • Experience delivering permits and planning approvals, and other entitlements for large scale and / or complex construction projects.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of projects and associated budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cross-functional and positive working relationships with internal and external teams including environmental consultants, attorneys, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and high standards for quality of deliverables.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Preferred :

  • Community Engagement and Stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Mission critical design and / or construction experience.
  • Experience in delivering projects in multiple states / countries.
