The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of Casual, On-Call Early Childhood Educator in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department.
The Recreation Programming Division is responsible for the provision of programs and leisure opportunities for all age groups and abilities year-round.
The Division promotes healthy lifestyles and works with individuals and community groups in the provision of recreation services.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Early Childhood Educator assists in the planning and facilitation of program activities in a licensed preschool setting;
monitors the work of preschool support workers; provides input and suggestions on lesson plans and outdoor activities to the preschool and early years supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 or equivalency;
- Early Childhood Education Certificate from a recognized educational institution;
- Current Child Safe or Safety Oriented First Aid-Emergency Level-Childcare and CPR-C;
- Current Criminal Record Clearance;
- Eligible for Early Childhood Educators of BC membership;
- Some (1 year) experience in preschool teaching;
- Sound knowledge of the Child Care Licensing Act;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote positive values and early childhood development;
- Ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues concerning children;
- Ability to work well as a member of a team;
- Physical ability to frequently lift preschool children and equipment such as tables and chairs.
The current hourly wage rate is $32.82. This is a casual, on-call position. Hours of work could be between 8 am and 4 : 30 pm, Monday to Friday.
Casual employees receive 12.4% in lieu of vacation entitlement, statutory holidays and benefits.
