Overview :
The Summer Transition Peer Assistant is responsible for assisting the Transition Program Coordinator with the development and implementation of the transition programs offered to first year students with a diagnosed and documented disability. Currently, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) offers four transition programs.
Partnership with Smart Start (Brock University’s academic orientation program)- Students will meet and attend a group presentation on SAS and discuss their disability related concerns while they are on campus for the Smart Start program. For further information on Smart Start program dates, please see the following link : Bridge to Brock Conference (3 full days)- this program is designed for students with a diagnosed and documented disability. This program allows for students to stay on campus overnight. The Transitions Peer Assistant will stay overnight in Residence to chaperone students. Bridge to Brock Conference (1 day)- this program is designed for students with a diagnosed and documented disability. Bridge to Brock Online Content and Information- Sessions from the in-person experience available to students via Brightspace asynchronously. Monitored by the Transitions Peer Assistant for questions or concerns from the students. The Summer Transitions Peer Assistant will work relatively closely with the Transitions Program Coordinator, they are also required to work independently on specific projects. The Summer Transitions Peer Assistant is also required to interact and correspond with prospective students, prospective parents, student peers, volunteers, and staff within the Brock Community. The ability to work independently and collaboratively is critical in this position. The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
