The local physician group is hiring inpatient care physicians to provide full-time, part-time, or locum inpatient care at Saanich Peninsula Hospital (SPH). Family medicine inpatient care is a highly valued and rewarding service in our community hospital.
SPH is a 65-bed acute care community hospital with an 18-bed emergency department that cares for 31,000 patients / year. SPH is the primary referral hospital for the Southern Gulf Islands, serving a total population of approximately 87,000. Tertiary care support and consultants are 30 minutes away by road at Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital. Medical Imaging, Laboratory services, as well as a CT scanner, operate 07 : 30 - 24 : 00 daily plus on call overnight.
As an inpatient team physician, you will provide coverage to a range of inpatients, including high acuity, palliative / end of life care, rehabilitation-focused, and dementia care. Flexible shifts are available with the understanding to provide a minimum of six weeks per year.
If you don’t set up a practice of your own, there is hope you will be interested in working as a locum in clinics on the Saanich Peninsula. Opportunities to work in the emergency department, where you would care for patients within the scope of a family physician (extra ER training is not required), are also available but not required. Experience in Palliative Care, MAiD, or long-term care are considered an asset but not required.
As an inpatient provider, you are well supported by our specialists and work in a highly effective interdisciplinary team. This team is characterized by strong engagement, comprehensive support, and a robust CME program. You'll receive excellent onboarding upon your arrival, helping you integrate smoothly into both the team and the community. Mentorship opportunities are also available.
