The Controller will be the finance business partner to the General Manager of Cambridge Life Sciences systems responsible for > $150 Mn in annual revenue. You will oversee directly and indirectly the finance team to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financials for the business. The role has direct interaction with all levels of the Executive team – Vice Presidents, the CFO and other corporate staff, and the CEO. As a high‑value added member of the management team, your position will be both challenging and rewarding, and includes significant decision‑making responsibilities. You will be responsible for all financial reporting and budgeting processes for the division. You will provide financial and analytical support for the operations and sales activities within the division. You will possess a thorough understanding of Canadian GAAP, and familiarity with US GAAP would be an asset. You will be responsible for the effectiveness of internal controls, and compliance with government regulations and Bill 198/Sarbanes‑Oxley.
Specific Responsibilities
- Prepare divisional annual budgets, forecasts and long‑term plans as required. Identify areas of risk within business plans. Prepare an Executive summary of the business plan for the division for the Executive Team. Work with Executive Team to develop strategic plans for the division.
- Work with Vice President, Finance, other Divisional Controllers and GMs to identify corporate‑wide cost savings opportunities, and opportunities for efficiency gains in day‑to‑day operational activities.
- Work with the General Manager of the division and Vice President, Finance to develop and implement a performance measurement system for the division, including implementation of the ATS Scorecard at the division.
- Perform tasks assigned by members of the Executive Committee and Corporate Finance in accordance with specified schedule.
- Work with Corporate Finance Staff to arrange financing for division operations as required, including bank financing and government assistance where appropriate.
- Negotiate with customers and vendors on contracts as required.
- Other day‑to‑day business support tasks as required.
- Plan, organize, direct and control the financial reporting, accounting and general financial affairs of the division.
- Maintenance of the accounting records in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
- Develop and train Financial Staff to ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to in a consistent manner within the division, and that the financial reporting standards are applied consistently. Regularly review policies and procedures with other Divisional Controllers and Senior Financial Staff, to develop an ATS best practice approach for the financial management of the company.
- Ensure the safeguarding of company assets.
- Maintenance of the internal controls memorandum, a document outlining the operational controls in place at the division.
Financial Reporting and Accounting
- Review divisional operational results. Interpret and communicate financial results through the use of the standard financial reporting package, as distributed by the Corporate Finance department, in accordance with the schedule provided. Ensure that divisional financial results are explained completely and accurately, with variances explained and areas of risk identified.
- Responsible for ensuring that the Cambridge Systems Division financial reporting is in accordance with Canadian GAAP.
- Responsible for preparing audit working papers on a quarterly basis, ensuring that all accounts are reconciled.
- Develop and/or prepare specific financial analysis as assigned by the Vice President, Finance, Corporate Finance, or Division General Manager for the effective management of the division and interpretation of results.
What You Have
- A post‑secondary diploma or degree specializing in accounting, finance or equivalent.
- A professional financial designation such as CA, CPA, CMA or CGA is a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years experience in corporate finance (within manufacturing / cost accounting experience will be a plus).
- Strong ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with PC based accounting systems and software tools.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical, financial and accounting skills as well as an ability to significantly contribute to the management of the division are keys.
- Hands‑on, organized and thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline driven environment.
