Description : HCI is seeking a Senior Construction Technician for full-time employment to inspect construction activities of a structure rehabilitation project.
The Senior Construction Technician will work in tandem with the Contract Administrator to witness construction activities, and ensure the contract requirements are being met by the contractor.
Location : Caledon, Ontario
Educational Requirements : Civil Engineering Technology / Technician Diploma, related Applied Science Degree, or equivalent experience and training.
Work Related experience :
At least five years varied contract administration and inspection experience on large highway or municipal roadway construction projects.
Other Requirements :
Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer contract requirements.
Demonstrated ability to convey contract requirements to the contractor.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Sound knowledge of MTO design standards, specifications and materials associated with highway construction.
Sound knowledge of legislative acts including environmental, and occupational health and safety and the ability to apply that knowledge in practical situations.
Valid driver’s license and access to own vehicle.
Ideal Candidate : The preferred candidate will possess the Road Construction Senior Inspector (rcsi) designation from OACETT, or be a licensed engineer in Ontario with relevant work experience.
Duties :
Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and HCI practices and procedures.
Using or wearing the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the OHSA or HCI require.
Wearing a hard hat, safety vest, and safety boots at all times while on the construction site.
Report to the supervisor or employer any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or regulations, or any hazards they are aware of.
Not engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough boisterous conduct.
Visually observe contractor’s operations to ensure compliance to the plans, specifications and material requirements of the contract.
Prepare daily reports in Inspector’s Diary related to contractor’s operations.
Interpret contract drawings and specifications.
Ensure contract requirements are being met by the contractor.
Perform inspections of the work as detailed in the Contract Administration and Inspection Specifications.
Administer HCI contract file system
Complete digital entries into the Ministry’s Contract Management System.
Monitor contractor’s adherence to their quality control plan
Ensure quality assurance sampling and testing is being completed according to the contract
Ensure all Certificates are submitted within the allotted time frame
Monitor contractor’s traffic control procedures and methods for adherence to Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, Temporary Conditions.
Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
