What We’re Looking For :

  • Driven Achiever : Ambitious, with a growth-oriented mindset and the drive to excel in all aspects of estimating.
  • Education and Experience : Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related field, or equivalent trade experience, with a foundational understanding of construction cost estimating processes. One to three years of experience.
  • Technical Expertise : General familiarity with specifications, drawings, materials, methods, and construction procedures, with a clear understanding of quantity takeoff, procurement, pricing, and bid-closing principles.
  • Detail-Oriented Thinker : Keen eye for detail, ensuring all estimates are accurate and comprehensive.
  • Strong Communicator and Relationship Builder : Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, subtrade partners and suppliers.
  • Organized and Proactive : Able to manage time effectively, balance multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Software and Technology Proficiency : Skilled in estimating software and highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Project), with an aptitude for adopting new technologies.
  • Your Role at Steelcon :

    As an Estimator at Steelcon, you will be a critical contributor to our Estimating team, supporting the preparation of accurate and competitive bids across both structural steel and miscellaneous metals. Your responsibilities will include :

    Bid Preparation and Support

  • Lead Estimates : Take ownership of assigned estimates and assist on larger estimates by reviewing all bid documents and validating project scope.
  • Quantity Take-Offs : Accurately perform quantity take-offs for labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Tender Document Preparation : Assist with preparing tender forms, generating RFIs, and coordinating proposal requirements.
  • Risk and Opportunity Analysis

  • Risk Identification : Analyze project documents to identify risks, assess site conditions, and recognize potential scheduling and market impacts.
  • Opportunity Recognition : Look for cost-saving or strategic advantages within each estimate.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Vendor Engagement

  • Build Strong Relationships : Work closely with estimators, bid teams, subtrade partners, and suppliers to support bid efforts.
  • Pricing Coordination : Solicit competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers and manage responses.
  • Bid-Day Activities and Document Control

  • Bid Submission Support : Collaborate with estimators on bid-day activities, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Document Management : Organize, document, and archive bid information for seamless transfer to project teams.
  • Data Management and Reporting

  • Preliminary Cost Analysis : Support cost analysis and budget checks, providing valuable insights to refine estimates.
  • Reporting : Generate bid status reports and other key performance metrics to help improve estimating practices.
