What you'll do
As a Technical Specialist working in the Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) and Reliability Division, you will work collaboratively as part of a highly technical team to support the CNSC's mandate and mission by providing regulatory leadership and expertise in the fields of probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) and systems reliability engineering.
Reporting to the Director, you'll :
- Lead the review of PSA and reliability relevant submissions and provide regulatory recommendations
- Participate in inspections and audits of licensees activities to evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements
- Make recommendations to senior management about the use of the PSA in regulatory activities and participate in the development of regulatory documents
- Prepare Commission Members Document (CMD) and participate to public Commission Meetings and License renewal Hearings to answer the questions from Commission Members and public interveners
- Conduct regulatory Research and coordinate research projects on risk and reliability
- Participate in international forums (e.g. IAEA, OCDE / NEA)
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to staff in the division
Essential Qualifications :
Education :
Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University in Science or Engineering, an equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge will also be considered.
Language Requirements :
English essential
Experience :
- PSA and reliability models development,
- Review of PSA, reliability and PSA applications for nuclear power plants and small reactors,
- PSA computer codes (e.g., CAFTA and R&R software suite),
- Nuclear power plant design, operation and safety analysis,
- Preparation and review of scientific papers, reports and documents,
- Project management and coordination.
Knowledge of :
- Reliability engineering and PSA (Level 1 and Level 2 for internal and external events),
- PSA applications (risk-informed decision making, risk-informed inspections, and other PSA applications, etc.),
- Nuclear reactors design and operation, including CANDU reactors and other types of reactors,
- Safety analysis of nuclear reactors and other nuclear installations (including deterministic safety analysis and hazard analysis)
- The Canadian Nuclear Safety Act (CNSA), Regulations, supporting guidance, documentation, and relevant safety codes and standards (CSA, IAEA, ASME, etc.
on PSA and reliability engineering.

Asset Qualification :
- Experience in deterministic safety analysis,
- Knowledge in Light Water Reactors and Small Modular Reactors,
- Participation in PSA peer reviews and in international working groups on Risk and reliability,
- Advanced degree in Science or Engineering.
Operational Needs :
All CNSC staff are subject to the Mobility Directive.
