Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Director, Supply Chain, the Senior Electronics Buyer is responsible for managing all purchases within their line of business area. The duties may include, but are not limited to, obtaining quotations, evaluating proposals, awarding purchase orders, and expediting the delivery of goods and services. The Senior Buyer will adhere to and train stakeholders in processes and procedures governing financial and supply chain controls. This role is based out of our Bedford, NS office and is an on‑site position.
Responsibilities
- Execute best‑in‑class supply chain concepts in daily work assignments
- Formulate and execute Purchase Orders, in accordance with system‑driven demand planning and / or approved requisitions
- Provide reporting and management of line of business procurement activities
- Provide sourcing strategies for total cost of ownership, long‑lead, and volume‑based buying activities
- Generate requests for proposals, bids and sourcing documents related to the purchasing of supplies, equipment, services and materials
- Quote bill of material lists to support business development
- Develop a negotiation plan, negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times and contractual clauses with vendors
- Partner with Engineering, Quality, Program Management, and Logistics to align on new product introductions (NPIs), design changes, and production ramp‑ups
- Monitor industry trends, new CCA technologies, and material shortages that could impact supply chains
- Have a general understanding of commercial contract law
- Provide expediting reports and strategies to mitigate risk through supply chain solutions
- Resolve quality control and any problematic orders with vendors
- Organize, chair and mediate vendor meetings on behalf of the organization, including maintaining records for line of business procurement activities
- Evaluate supplier performance through key performance indicators
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with company suppliers, in accordance with the ethical code and standards of conduct, maintaining the highest standard of professionalism
- Provide analytics to support buying activities, including changes in price, sourcing activities, cost‑benefit decision making, leading indicators, activity levels, or project tracking
- Provide reports detailing cost savings and avoidance or notable supply chain achievements
- Organize and provide record keeping including copies of quotes, proposals and correspondence for the team
- Mentor junior buyers and share best practices in sourcing and negotiation
- Collaborate with team members remotely and within an office environment
- Multi‑task to manage priorities, multiple assignments and deadlines
- Travel when required to vendor locations or Leonardo DRS offices
Requirements
A Degree, Diploma or Designation in Supply Chain Management is considered an assetMinimum 7 to 10 years of experience in electronics buyingExperience in managing contract manufacturers of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) and cable assemblies is an assetExperience in Engineering, Defense or Aerospace is an assetAbility to work in an ERP systemAbility to work in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)High attention to detailWorks well within a teamBenefits
