Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights, rotating from 07 : 00 to 19 : 00 and 19 : 00 to 07 : 00 hours. This is a relief full‑time opportunity until August 5, 2027, or return of the incumbent.
About This Location
The Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Kelowna General Hospital is a tertiary mental health, psychiatric unit for youth between ages 12 and 17 years old. The unit provides a youth‑friendly, safe and secure environment with an average length of stay of 7 to 21 days. It has 8 beds staffed with a multidisciplinary team offering psycho‑educational programming. A collaborative problem‑solving philosophy and model of practice is utilized. Daily programming includes therapy groups, recreational and leisure time and creative projects. A unit classroom staffed by a certified teacher helps students maintain their coursework and create an education plan for return to their community school. Programming provides an opportunity for a whole‑life assessment creating the basis for treatment planning.
Interior Health has embarked on an expansion plan to meet increasing demands, expand health services, and enhance patient care in the Okanagan. Construction of the six‑storey, Centennial Patient Care Tower was completed in May 2012, including an expanded emergency department, ambulatory care department, five new operating rooms, a rooftop helipad, an expanded adult inpatient psychiatric unit, and extra space for more patient beds in the future. Kelowna General Hospital is the site of the brand new clinical academic campus for the University of BC Medical School.
