Overview

Are you ready to contribute to the safe management and disposal of irradiated fuel across Canada? As a Fuel Program Technologist, you'll play a key role in operating transfer and shipping flasks to ensure the safe recovery, handling, and transportation of used fuel. This important work supports the consolidation of fuel inventories and the decommissioning of multiple CNL sites. Join us in shaping the future of nuclear fuel management—apply today!

What will you be doing

  • Operating casks and flasks safely to ensure secure fuel transfer.
  • Maintaining production records and procedural documentation as required.
  • Ensuring a clean and safe workplace through adherence to safety standards.
  • Preparing operating or maintenance procedures as required.
  • Creating critical lift plans as needed.
  • Compiling IWC documentation as required.
  • Procuring materials necessary for cask maintenance.
  • Maintaining accurate records related to cask maintenance.
  • Executing maintenance procedures to ensure the proper function of casks.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for

  • Education
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position and normally has two to three years of pertinent technological experience.

  • Or Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has five to eight years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and / or training.
  • Experience
  • Experience manipulating flasks and / or shielded containers for radioactive material

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated skill and dexterity in handling remote tools and equipment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment, develop improvements, and oversee their implementation.
  • Good verbal communication and technical writing skills to effectively document and communicate tasks.
  • Proven experience working successfully as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario general driver’s license.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and / or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

  • Demonstrated skill and dexterity in handling remote tools and equipment.

  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate spontaneous project demands.
  • Wearing appropriate protective clothing and equipment as required by the work environment.
  • Working Environment :
  • Capable of working at heights as required by certain tasks.

  • Ability to work shift schedules when needed, and outdoors in all seasons.
  • Routinely deploy to CNL offsite locations across Canada to support fuel conditioning and / or fuel retrieval operations.
