This position will travel to various clinical locations throughout the Niagara Region and Hamilton. Some clinical placements are scheduled on evenings and weekends. Candidates must be available for all locations and shifts.
A Day in the Life…
Reporting to the Chair, Nursing the incumbent oversees and ensures the highest standards of clinical education and training for the undergraduate nursing students. The incumbent provides evaluation and expert mentoring to clinical instructors regarding the best practices of clinical nursing for the undergraduate (UG) Nursing program. The incumbent communicates regularly with Clinical Instructors, Health Care Providers, Clinical Coordinators, Faculty, Students and leadership to address concerns, gather feedback, and continuously enhance the quality and ensure compliance of the clinical program.
As the Undergraduate Clinical Supervisor, you will :
- Participate in the interviewing of new clinical instructors for the UG program;
- Mentor new clinical instructors in the UG program;
- Provide a consistent and accessible presence across all clinical and agency sites;
- Collaborating with the Course Instructor, share with Clinical instructors' guidance of course objectives and strategies to implement these objectives and expectations for each clinical course offered in the UG program;
- Provide guidance and support to Clinical Instructors in the implementation of fair and consistent student evaluation practices;
- Work with students, clinical instructors and course instructors to implement student success / individual plans;
- Develop in partnership with the Chair / Assistant Chair a system for the assessment and evaluation of Clinical Instructor performance, including feedback mechanisms;
- Monitor the clinical learning environment to ensure students receive appropriate supervision, mentorship, and opportunities to apply their knowledge;
- Identify and in collaboration with the Nursing Department, address any challenges or barriers that may hinder students' clinical learning and professional development;
- Review and remain current on the theoretical nursing curriculum to ensure alignment within the clinical nursing practices;
- Evaluate, observe, promote, and facilitate expectations of clinical learning as outlined in the course syllabi;
- Collaborate with faculty members to identify areas for improvement and advise on improvements to enhance the students' clinical competencies;
What you need to Succeed…
Masters in Nursing or a related fieldCurrently registered as a RN and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;A valid G-class drivers license and acceptable drivers abstract;Immunizations, (Including Covid 19 primary series) mask fit, TB skin testing, and agency requirements must be current; andMinimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience and clinical instructor experience;Minimum of 3 years in a leadership / manager / supervisor role;Demonstrated experience in teaching;Demonstrated current knowledge of clinical nursing skills (, psychomotor, therapeutic communication, organizational, leadership);Knowledge of nursing legislation, standards, and guidelines;Knowledge of risk management policies and safety practices for Brock, local hospitals, and community organizations; andProficiency and comfort with Microsoft Office and other technology applications.Advanced communication skills, including active listening, capacity to provide caring and authentic feedback, negotiation and collaborative skills, and coaching skills;Ability to explain concepts and skills clearly;Utilizes strong planning and organizational skills (, time management, multi-tasking, prioritization);Strong attention to detail, judgement, analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.Applicants are asked to submit proof of RN registration with the CNO.
Salary and Benefit Information
Job Grade (M), Salary Scale ($68,600-$117,600)Target Hiring Range : $75,000-$85,000This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.Applicants are required to upload a resume and cover letter as part of the application process.
