Job Description
The Apprentice is responsible for constructing and maintaining buildings. Required knowledge includes : construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control and safety.Know the characteristics and proper use of all building construction materials.
Be proficient in the operation, safe use, and maintenance of hand and power tools.
Lay foundations, read drawings, and calculate quantities of materials.
Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
Set up scaffolding as needed and build stairs and other items.
Construct and maintain structural woodwork, shelving, flooring, tables, chairs, etc.
Perform renovations as required and ensure an adequate supply of materials for preventative maintenance.
Keep a daily log of tasks and prepare a preventative maintenance schedule.
Assist with the delivery of other related municipal services and respond to the superintendent's direction.
Contribute to and participate in the effective use of the quality-control system.
Perform other related duties that may be assigned, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required, and the work does not exceed own limitations.
