Reporting to the Regional Vice President of Atlantica Contractors, the Director of Planning, Estimating, and Design will be responsible for the management and success of Atlantica’s preconstruction; including overseeing : estimating, bid management, scheduling, budgets, design, and other related tasks. This position is based from our office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Position Overview

As the Director of Planning, Estimating, and Design you will have the following responsibilities :

People Management And Leadership

  • Lead Estimating and BIM teams with cross-functional coordination to ensure effective team efforts.
  • Create a positive work environment and develop, coach and motivate staff to excel in their roles;
  • Develop an individual performance and professional development plan with each team member;
  • Serve as the main liaison between operations, estimating, and the BIM team to ensure efficient execution and readiness.
  • Strategy, Risk, and Compliance

  • Participate in senior management meetings and contribute to the overall strategy development for the Cahill Group of Companies;
  • Organize and facilitate Project Review meetings / reports for senior executive;
  • Streamline work processes with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Identify, manage, and communicate risk factors to Divisional Directors & The Vice President to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure adherence to contractual requirements while aligning strategies with overall project and company goals.
  • Pre-Construction And Budget Management

  • Conduct and manage internal estimate reviews and bid process meetings.
  • Oversee budget control establishment and maintenance during the preconstruction phase to align project costs and goals.
  • Monitor construction budgets between formal estimating periods and communicate updates to the team to maintain budget awareness and manage design impacts.
  • Prepare the project construction schedule, managing timelines for General Conditions preparation, and ensuring coordination of these conditions with trade packages for seamless execution.
  • Establish and maintain consistent deliverables, ensuring they meet quality and format standards required by clients and internal processes.
