Job description

The positions are classified as a RÉ-04 ($65,362 to $83,229 per annum).

A list of qualified people will be compiled and may be used for additional temporary or indeterminate positions.

JOB OVERVIEW

As a Conservation Officer, you will patrol and monitor the National Capital Commission (NCC) properties to ensure compliance with the NCC regulations as well as other federal or provincial laws. You will ensure public safety and help by participating in search and rescues, administering first aid and conducting the initial attack on forest firefighting operations.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Law Enforcement, in Wildlife protection, in Conservation and Environmental Law Enforcement or in a related field.

EXPERIENCE

One (1) to three (3) years of experience in each of the following criteria :

  • Enforcing laws and regulations.
  • Managing, monitoring and protecting properties, buildings, lands or natural resources.
  • Providing public safety services.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Of the legal proceedings related to offences.
  • Of the appropriate federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations governing the protection of assets and natural resources.
  • ABILITIES

  • To stay calm under stressful situations and make sound decisions.
  • To complete detailed reports.
  • To establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • To work alone or in a team with minimal supervision.
  • COMPETENCIES

  • ASSETS

  • Possess a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC).
  • Training for use of All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and snowmobile.
  • A provincial trapping licence from Québec or Ontario.
  • Knowledge of the NCC regulations including but not limited to Traffic and Property Regulations.
  • Ability to present testimonies and evidence in court.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • To walk long distances in a natural environment, sometimes in rugged terrain and in difficult weather conditions.
  • To work in sometimes difficult climatic conditions.
  • To work evenings, weekends, shifts outside of regular working hours and during statutory holidays.
  • To wear a uniform including protective equipment and other operational tools if necessary.
  • Possess a valid certificate for First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
  • To meet RCMP criteria to obtain Peace Officer Status.
  • To handle extensive patrolling.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
  • Linguistic profile : Bilingual BBB.
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a good driver’s abstract.
  • To complete a psychological assessment.
  • To undergo a medical examination.
  • To pass the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) or a similar evaluation.
  • Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 80 Bayview Station Road, Ottawa, Ontario.
