Role Overview
Reporting to the Global COO Pulp, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and providing leadership for the harvesting, planning and silviculture operations on AV Group’s Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands.
Responsibilities associated to this role include, but are not limited to :
- Deliver Woodlands budget in a challenging wood market;
- Deliver high quality and cost-effective wood to our two NB Mills located in Nackawic and Atholville;
- Maintain healthy wood inventories by species and form according to our safety stocks policy;
- Work closely with Unit Heads and Central Operations to find ways to reduce wood costs and improve fiber yield and quality;
- Negotiate wood contracts for price and volume with market participants and the government alike under the terms of AVG;
- Understand the impact of the Woodlands department decisions and how they impact the company’s P&L;
- Effectively build collaborative business networks within and outside AVG;
- Provide leadership to the Woodlands team and the AVG team as such;
- Demonstrate autonomy in leading operations and deliverables;
- Excellent command of all relevant sustainable certifications and credentials such as FSC, PEFC, SFI, etc.;
- Be a sustainable ambassador for AVG in New Brunswick, Canada and abroad. Represent the company as required in sustainability forums and conferences;
- Live our safety culture and be a safety ambassador in the field;
- The successful candidate will lead a high performing team of individuals directly and external contractors.
Candidate qualifications :
Bachelor degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering;MBA considered a plus;A minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry;A proven commitment to safety;Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite;Excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong written and spoken communication skills;Strong commercial skills;Excellent financial skills;Highly passionate individual;High levels of resilience.
