The Regional Services Branch within the Ministry of Agriculture has an opportunity for a motivated individual to join their team as a Farm Management Extension Specialist. This position is part of the Agriculture Programs Specialist team delivering programming offered under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership

As a Farm Management Extension Specialist, you will provide leadership as a member of the ministry regional service delivery team in the identification, analysis, development, promotion, implementation, and monitoring of farm business management and program delivery priorities. This includes :

  • providing in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of programming offered under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership as it relates to best management practices, new technologies, and promotion of the federal / provincial agreement initiatives;
  • providing in-depth and comprehensive technical expertise in farm business management practices, technologies, and promotion of the adoption of the federal / provincial agreement initiatives;
  • supporting efforts to build public trust by promoting and encouraging the adoption of environmental best management practices, awareness of available programming, participation in research, and support of science-based assurance and regulatory systems;
  • consulting and partnering with internal and external stakeholders, other government agencies (both provincial and federal) to support the development of farm management tools and resources and program initiatives to ensure sustainable growth; and
  • provide support for all agriculture sectors and assist industry and the ministry in identifying gaps and responding to pressures on agricultural production.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional agrologist who has knowledge of farm business management practices and agriculture programming as well as current agriculture trends and issues in Saskatchewan and Canada, and who is :

  • a leader in the delivery of client services;
  • an independent, detail oriented worker who also has the skills to work as part of a dynamic team of specialists;
  • an exceptional communicator to strategically interpret and transfer relevant information to producers, industry and colleagues;
  • organized and able to independently prioritize and meet multiple deadlines;
  • a strong interpersonal leader with demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, leaders, technical specialists, and industry clients; and
  • able to identify, analyze and develop viable options, explanations and solutions to complex agricultural production and economic-related problems.
  • The competencies required for this position would be obtained through a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Ag Business Degree, or Commerce Degree combined with some agricultural program and / or client-service delivery. The ability to obtain a Professional Agrologist designation is required.

    A valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
