About the Role
The Specialist Operations role will support the Site Superintendent in the management of the Island Copper closed mine site on Vancouver Island near Port Hardy.
This is an entry level position suited to an individual seeking to gain experience in mining and specifically mine site rehabilitation at a unique site.
BHP completes ongoing monitoring, maintenance and research of the closed mine site. The position is based in Port Hardy, British Columbia.
In this role you will :
- Participate in the planning, execution, monitoring, and improvement of site operations including, but not limited to water treatment plants, water conveyance infrastructure, legacy mine infrastructure, compliance reporting.
- Complete environmental sampling, monitoring, and associated reporting.
- Participate in team reporting, planning and risk management activities.
- Execute work in a safe manner and ensure site operations are operating safely, in alignment with BHP safe work practices.
- Involvement in site rehabilitation study and project work including reclamation vegetation assessments, geochemical studies, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Awareness of requirement to meet compliance with all local, Provincial and Federal legislation and BHP requirements.
- Contribute to the risk management processes for the Island Copper team through engagement with site staff, technical expertise, and functional support.
- Contribute to improvement initiatives.
About You
- Experience in mining, environmental, projects or mine rehabilitation activities
- Understanding of water treatment and closed site management practices
- Operating field experience and working aligned to safe operating procedures
- Project management skills
- Good time management skills with the ability to work independently
- Solid interpersonal skills including an ability to interact and communicate professionally and respectfully with site staff, functional support teams, and regulatory agency representatives.
- Willingness to learn and seek to improve existing processes and systems
- Bachelor’s degree in science and engineering preferred.
- Anticipated pay range 90,000 110,000 CAD
