Distribution Engineer

Position Summary
Halton Hills Hydro is searching for a Distribution Engineer who will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability safety and efficiency of the electrical distribution system. This position is highly technical and design-focused responsible for system analysis engineering design and infrastructure planning to support both operational and capital programs. The role requires strong expertise in system modeling analysis and design coupled with an ability to provide subject-matter expertise and guidance to the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct system analysis including load flow short circuit and relay coordination studies to assess system performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop engineering plans and designs for new distribution systems ensuring compliance with safety regulations and efficiency standards.
- Perform load forecasting and infrastructure planning to accommodate system growth and emerging technologies.
- Utilize CYME software to model the distribution network and simulate various operating scenarios.
- Provide technical expertise for system troubleshooting and ensure reliable operations.
- Support project management activities and coordinate with internal teams contractors and external stakeholders as needed.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards codes and company policies.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
Bachelors degree in Electrical EngineeringLicensed Professional Engineer (.) in Ontario or eligibility for licensureExperience
510 years of relevant experience in the electrical utility industryProven knowledge of Ontario Energy Board (OEB) regulations and industry standardsExperience in system analysis design and load forecasting as well as infrastructure planning and modeling using CYME / DESS softwareSkills & Competencies
Proficiency in CYME / DESS and other engineering software toolsStrong understanding of energy efficiency strategies and loss reduction methodsDemonstrated knowledge of line design and substation engineering principlesExceptional analytical and data interpretation skills for system monitoring and performance optimizationExcellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholdersCommitment to safety ethics and continuous improvementExperience with load-flow and voltage analysis in a distribution system contextKnowledge of station / transformer station (TS) and feeder testing proceduresFamiliarity with short-circuit analysis and protection adequacy assessmentsUnderstanding of connection timelines for new planned and / or modified distribution circuitsOther Requirements
