Job description

Trevor Frances Recruitment is proud to represent our client in seeking a dedicated Senior Accountant. This role will report to the Manager of Accounting, Pricing, and Costing. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing key accounting processes, including vendor billing approvals, third-party logistics invoices, and customer payment tracking. In this role, you will ensure efficient accounting practices and develop new controls to support ongoing process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Accounts Payable

  • Review and approve vendor bills, including accounts payable and charges for warehousing, freight, and customs duties.
  • Update and track customer payment status within internal systems.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and apply adjustments as necessary.
  • Calculate distributor rebates and cash discounts, and manage expense analysis.
  • Prepare and submit monthly HST reports for review.
  • Conduct month-end account reviews and finalizations.
  • Propose and implement accounting controls as needed.
  • Assist with additional account-related tasks and special projects.
  • Stay current on best practices in bookkeeping.
  • Supervisory & Team Leadership

  • Oversee a team of junior accountants, ensuring a supportive and safe work environment.
  • Establish team priorities, create work schedules, and track progress.
  • Conduct regular meetings with team members to review goals and set future objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Qualifications and Skills

  • Coursework in bookkeeping or accounting (college level).
  • Professional accounting designation (CA or CMA) preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in accounting with a proven track record in accounts payable, team leadership, and process improvement.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software (including QuickBooks).
  • Deep understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and video conferencing software.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle numerical details accurately.
  • Willingness to work outside of regular hours, as required.
