Description
The Electrical Design Supervisor provides technical guidance and leadership to a team of Electrical Designers and Drafters. The position develops electrical design and drafting standards and advises professionals in electrical disciplines regarding all aspects of engineering, design, drafting, and installation.
This position possesses a high degree of technical knowledge in electrical design and drafting principles and practices complimented by leadership skills and the ability to provide technical guidance to electrical design and drafting teams. This position consistently evaluates, selects, and applies advanced design and drafting techniques and procedures to complex assignments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs daily activities of the Electrical design group
- Provides leadership, mentorship, and coordination of Electrical design personnel
- Ensures relationships with Electrical staff are maintained proactively and positively
- Creates an environment that facilitates learning and a high degree of efficiency
- Liaises with other engineering departments including Project Management
- Works with clients and staff to specify and design electrical requirements for projects
- Supervises various activities involved in the electrical design of projects
- Identifies areas for improvement and implements recommendations
- Prepares man-hour estimates and provides input into project schedules
- Remains current in Electrical engineering technology and installation codes, industry standards, and government regulations
- Ensures that all deliverables are checked and verified
- Attends project progress meetings as required
- Attends weekly production meeting
- Provides design support during shop fabrication and field construction
- Coordinates work assignments and staffing for various projects
- Coordinates work activities and work distribution to suit the production schedule
- Develops, manages, and monitors project schedules, budgets, and updates weekly
- Participates in the selection and training of designers and drafters for the electrical department and conducts semi and / or annual performance reviews
Prerequisites
Education
Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent education and experienceExperience
10+ years’ experience in Electrical power & control systems design experience in oil and gas / petrochemical industriesReading P&ID drawings, flow sheets, instrument and Electrical hookup drawings, plant layout drawings, clients’ scope of work and technical specifications, process and control narratives, cause and effect tables, WIP reports, line lists, data sheets, and instrument listsTroubleshooting and resolving electrical and control technical problems in all project phasesOther
Registered member with the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professional of Alberta (ASET)Must be familiar with Auto-Cad and Microsoft Office softwareKnowledgeable of electrical codes and standards (i.e. CSA, IEEE, API)Knowledgeable of federal / provincial safety policies and proceduresAs a condition of employment, employees are required upon hire to sign a Drug-Free Workplace Agreement, a Conflict of Interest Agreement, and Confidentiality and Invention AgreementRequired Skills and Abilities
