Position Overview
To reach our vision, FortisBC is looking for Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Business Partner to join our Contractor Safety Management team.

In this role, you will be responsible for working closely with our contractor community in an OHS advisory capacity ensuring FortisBC’s contractor safety management program complies with the business needs and the regulatory requirements.
Your portfolio may include the where you will be part of a team building a more reliable natural gas system for our more than one million customers across British Columbia.
In this role, you will :
- Developing an understanding of our business structure, organizational values, work culture and the safety management system.
- Building relationships with key stakeholders, communicate effectively, and support the safety culture. For example, lead and / or participate in various contractor safety forums.
- Providing subject matter expertise on contractor safety management ensuring compliance to the applicable procedures, standards, and / or regulations.
- Collaborating with diverse teams to support the contractor safety management program and initiatives. For example, management system review, contractor onboarding, risk assessment, field inspection / audit (safety learning engagement), safe work procedure, tool-box meeting, incident investigation (event learning), performance evaluation and where needed, training.
- Periodically evaluate effectiveness of contractor safety management practices, and test for program effectiveness and opportunities for improving the overall Contractor Safety Management System across projects.
- Provide guidance and clarification on the application of multiple-employer workplace interactions, specifically for the roles of employer, owner, and prime contractor working relationships in accordance with the WorkSafeBC occupational health & safety regulation / guidelines.
- Participate in project-related safety meetings in the assigned zones, as required. Participate in quarterly safety meetings and share learnings from contractor performance across the department.
- Participate in contractor safety summits, events and meetings to further relationship building and contractor engagement opportunities.
What it takes :
- A bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or related discipline from a recognized accredited program, plus four to seven years of recent, related experience in the occupational health and safety field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Relevant OH&S certification (e.g., CRSP, CRST etc.) or the ability to obtain one.
- Ability to travel frequently for work and a valid B.C. driver’s license.
- Key soft skills (e.g., result oriented, attention to detail, multi-tasking, adaptive learner, empathy, effective communication, team collaboration).
- Technology skills (e.g., MS Office, safety software and mobile applications etc.).
What you need to know :
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
