Responsibilities

The Compliance Department at Société Générale is responsible for overseeing compliance with laws, regulations, guidelines and policies that apply to the firm’s banking and financial activities, particularly in the areas of anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism financing, sanctions & embargoes, know-your-customer obligations, client protection, market integrity, anti-bribery & corruption, data protection and client tax transparency.

The Compliance Department enables the firm to operate according to essential compliance standards, ensures that Société Générale’s non-compliance and reputation risks are controlled, while supporting the business with existing activities and in the development of new products or services.

Compliance acts as a second line of defense, developing and implementing policies, procedures, and controls, monitoring activities, advising the business, assessing risks, and providing training to ensure understanding and application of requirements, contributing to spread a culture of compliance within the Group.

ABOUT THE JOB :

The Compliance Department is looking for a Compliance professional to support its Second Line of Defense (2LOD) Control oversight and manage matters pertaining to Compliance control framework across the full scope of Americas (AMER) operations The ideal candidate will be versatile and enthusiastic and will be required to work with various stakeholders throughout the business and support functions. The candidate must have strong analytical skills, be practical and proactive in understanding how Societe Generale’s business practices and operations relate to and evolve with Compliance regulations and processes.

What will be your DAY-TO-DAY?

The Level 1 Control Relay (“L1C Relay”) for Compliance Americas (CPLE AMER) will take charge of the Level 1 Control Framework implementation, evolution, coordination, and challenge. The role requires extensive stakeholder engagement transversally across CPLE units and locations. Day to day responsibilities include (but is not limited to) :

  • Control Framework Blueprint Management : Develop and maintain the control framework blueprints for CPLE in the USA and Canada, with oversight support for Brazil as needed.
  • Level 1 Controls (L1C) Implementation : Implement and map Level 1 Controls (L1Cs) within the Group Control Need library (BCN) to align with compliance blueprint objectives and applicable activities.
  • Risk Mitigation and Regulatory Compliance : Enhance the L1C framework by staying informed of updates to the US Regulatory Inventory, ensuring controls meet both regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Control Design : Engage with control owners and departments to design effective Level 1 Controls, providing guidance on optimizing control design to mitigate risk and recommending improvements to the compliance framework.
  • Second Line of Defense (2LOD) Support : Lead control applicability analysis for the 2LOD framework, working with stakeholders to refine control performance and design, and update the Group control repository as needed.
  • Reporting and Communication : Produce regular reports and metrics on L1C performance, framework completeness, and control mapping accuracy, and share updates with Regional and Group Compliance, Americas Permanent Control Management, and other relevant departments.
  • Control Evaluation and Action Plans : Ensure timely control evaluations, document anomalies, implement corrective actions, and track progress on action plans, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Training and Awareness : Promote Group and local control principles and best practices, conducting training to raise employee and manager awareness on control performance.
  • Framework Updates and Compliance Alignment : Coordinate with stakeholders to implement timely updates to the L1C Framework in line with Group timelines and review deadlines.
  • Framework Evolution and Transformation : Assess regulatory and control need updates to guide the evolution of the compliance framework across 1LOD and 2LOD, including control design, execution frequency, and annual certification.
  • Additional Compliance Support and Projects : Provide support on the team unit matters such as Compliance Issues, Breaches, Volcker Rule, and French Banking Law, and lead or contribute to ad hoc projects as needed.

Profile required

Skills and Qualifications :

Must Have :

  • 3-5 years in an investment bank or financial institution.
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks over a 6–12-month period.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Skilled in organizing and mapping data sets in Excel.
  • Ability to draft executive summaries on control results.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to constructively challenge.
  • Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills across all levels; able to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Initiative-driven, able to prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Regulatory Awareness : Knowledge of financial regulations and standards.
  • Understanding of banking / financial institutions and control frameworks.
  • Ability to break down complex issues and integrate solutions effectively.
  • Nice to Have :

  • Prior experience with regulatory compliance or control framework preferred but not necessary.
  • LANGUAGE :

    Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, is a requirement as the person in this position will need to collaborate regularly with colleagues and partners in the United States.
