Job Description
The City of Mission is on the lookout for a seasoned and visionary Director of Engineering and Public Works. This high-level position is integral to the city's strategic initiatives, requiring a leader who can adeptly navigate the complexities of municipal engineering management. The role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including the leadership of planning, designing, and ensuring the efficient delivery of complex municipal infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and water supply systems. Your purview will extend to the operations and maintenance programs critical to the sustainability and safety of our community assets, coupled with the strategic oversight of the city's solid waste management systems to meet environmental and regulatory standards. This position has oversight of the City’s landfill.
This leadership role requires a strategic thinker who can effectively align departmental objectives with the city's broader corporate strategies and policies. As a key member of the Senior Management Team, you will collaborate across multiple departments to foster innovation and cross-functional efficiency. Your mandate will also involve advising the city council on technical engineering matters and driving policy initiatives that support our strategic goals.
In terms of financial management, you will oversee the preparation and administration of the department's budget, employing rigorous public sector financial principles to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability. Managing a diverse team, you will be instrumental in cultivating a work environment that emphasizes professional development, safety, and excellence, in alignment with labor relations policies.
Qualifications
Qualifications essential for this role include a post-secondary degree in civil engineering or related field, accompanied by substantial managerial experience in municipal engineering and public works. Candidates must be registered as a Professional Engineer with the EGBC, underscoring their capability and commitment to engineering excellence. Additionally, a valid BC Driver's License is required to facilitate effective city-wide operations.
Additional Information
Compensation for this excluded position includes a four-step wage range from $194,640 to $216,264, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
