The Role :

Database Services Department at Scotiabank is looking for an Advisory Database Administrator to design, test, and implement Oracle, Cassandra, Mongo, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases on various initiatives. This group provides database administration for over 30 applications that provide investments, products, sales and services for Retail and Commercial banking in Canada and International. This role will report to Senior Manager of Database Administration leading this department.

Responsiblities :

• Provide on-site database and system support
• Perform diagnostics, testing, and troubleshooting of software, o / s, and database issues
• Make recommendations to maintain and improve capacity and system performance
• Plan and perform software installation, configuration, upgrade and patching
• Perform manual switch to redundant system / database components, in case of system failure
• Participate in projects and database design / test / implementation
• Weekly rotation for 24x7 production support calls
• Work in agile fashion, and join daily morning scrums

Must Have Skills / Requirements :

1) 8+ years of experience as a DBA

2) Experience with different database technologies (NoSQL - Cassandra & Mongo, Relational - PostgreSQL& MySQL & Oracle), and database architecture designs for stability & high availability

3) 8+ years of hands on experience in providing technical support, covering database administration and operations to include monitoring maintenance capacity, performance monitoring / planning and incident / problem troubleshooting and resolution

4) 5+ years of hands on experience with Cassandra, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL

5) 8+ years of hands on experience with either JSON, Python, Linux / AIX Shell Scripts, SQL, PL / SQL 6) Proven ability to write excellent technical documentation
