Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW :

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the installation, calibration, of instruments as well as bending and installation of tubing and required support. Reporting to the Instrumentation Supervisor, the Instrumentation Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment, conducting routine inspections, conducting quality checks, and responding to equipment malfunctions or breakdowns. Additionally, this role may be involved in interpreting technical drawings, preparing reports, and collaborating with other production staff to optimize system performance and reliability

Shift Schedule - 4 : 30-2 : 20 (4 days / week,10 hours / day). Overtime is as required.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI) :

INSTRUMENTATION INSTALLATION & ASSEMBLY (Weighting 70%)Technical Proficiency and Execution

  • Tube Bending Experience.
  • Installation and calibration of instruments.
  • Factory Acceptance Testing / commissioning of flow meters, pressure gauges, etc.
  • Skid layout using P&IDs, GA's, and customer specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.

Compliance

  • Adhere to safety protocols, lockout / tagout procedures, and safety regulations
  • Follow codes, standards, and regulations for instrumentation and electrical work
  • PROCESS MANAGEMENT (Weighting 20%)Operations Support

  • Prepare documentation per company standards, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Participate in Toolbox meetings, conduct risk assessments, and implement mitigation measures
  • Training and Mentorship

  • Share knowledge and mentor junior technicians
  • Assist in training programs and mentorship initiatives
  • COLLABORATION (Weighting 10%) Cross-functional Engagement

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for effective communication and task execution
  • Professionally interact with internal customers, vendors, and inspectors
  • Operational Efficiency

  • Foster continuous improvement environment
  • Work closely with other trades for unit design optimization
  • QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Journeyperson certification in Instrumentation or a related trade.
  • Experienced (typically 5+ years) in instrumentation installation, testing, and calibration within a fabrication environment. Experience working on compression and processing equipment packages is considered an asset.
  • Commissioning and start-up experience is an asset.
  • Strong instrument and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Well organized, excellent communication skills, and works well in a team environment.
