Journeyman Mechanic position at Education Centre in Regina. This is a permanent full-time position that will commence on January 19, 2026.
Role Overview: Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair and rescue of school buses and other fleet vehicles, working as part of the Transportation team to provide safe, efficient and reliable transportation services to students and schools.
What you will do: - Independently and accurately diagnose vehicle malfunctions and perform repairs to gasoline and diesel engines, including steering, body and chassis, electrical, cooling and brake systems, drive trains, transmissions, suspension and hydraulic systems.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets specifications and legislated requirements.
- Perform required and ad hoc vehicle safety inspections to evaluate condition, identify and complete necessary repairs and/or preventative maintenance routines.
- Use judgment to complete assigned vehicle work in an efficient manner while keeping safety considerations first and foremost.
- Complete all required tracking and records to comply with provincial and school division record keeping requirements.
- Perform rescues of stranded buses in a variety of weather and site conditions.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized and productive work area.
- Perform other duties as may be required or assigned by the Fleet Manager or the Transportation Supervisor
What will make you successful: - Journeyperson Mechanic status
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a busy mechanic shop and in field service.
- Experience working with school buses is a definite asset.
- Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License.
- Ability to perform physical labour on a sustained basis, including lifting heavy objects, installing tiresand other heavy parts up to 80 lb.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and technical manuals.
- Current knowledge of industry best practices and use of technology.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees, particularly other mechanics and bus drivers and to establish effective working relationships at all levels in the organization.
- Strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment and work in cramped or awkward positions.
- Knowledge of regulations and guidelines of governing bodies regarding repairs, inspection, maintenance and safety.
- Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.
