The Opportunity
This omni tech position will have a lighting background, along with basic competencies across other technical areas depending on the nature of the production, including staging, sound and video. The LIghting / Omni tech provides the operational support required for the delivery of Performing Arts Programs andeventson campus.
Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to Technical Director, the Lighting / Omni Tech will help support this year's Summer Arts Festival artistic performances across campus, including live music, dance, opera, literary readings, and more. Below are some key accountabilities :
Overview
- Responsible to support the integration of department-wide activities; and may be called to support coordination of a highly specialized activity.
- Execute all job tasks with attention to safety procedures
- Provide technical production support for music concerts and a wide variety of other productions including dance, opera, and theatre
- Technically support live music concert performances including string quartets, orchestras, chamber music, new music, rock, pop and others.
- Liaise with other staff to ensure effective support is anticipated and provided to ensure a successful experience for artistic clients, participants and faculty
- Ability to hang & focus lights
- Ability to assist in the projections department
- Ability to assist with live audio set ups for concerts including setting up and patching microphones and basic troubleshooting
- Ability to assist with wireless microphone system set ups and mic’ing up performers
- Assist with general stage carpentry set ups for concerts and dance shows
- Knowledge in the safe operation of fly systems, and the ability to operate fly systems
- Understanding of theatrical rigging
- For shows : participate in planning, set ups, show calls, changeovers and load-outs
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Theatre Practitioner level 2 : must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a Theatre or Performing Arts production environmentTheatre practitioner level 3 : must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a Theatre or Performing Arts production environmentHas completed a formal theatre educationMust be proficient in the use of computers and multi-media and able to operate specialized equipment.Must have a working knowledge of the theories and practices that support this discipline.Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to stay calm under pressureAble to work with tight, changing timelines in a fast paced environmentKnowledgeable of related industry trends including the application of up to date techniques, and use of special materials and current health and safety standardsAble to apply professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency and support level required by Performing ArtsSpecial Requirements
Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.Employment Terms and Benefits
