Reports to : Director, Technology Operations Location : North Vancouver, Hybrid Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX : This role for a Manager, Network Engineering, is responsible for overseeing physical networks, cloud networks, interbranch connectivity, and on-premise systems within a hybrid network environment. Working closely with the cloud platform team this role is responsible for network architectures and stateful servers both on prem and in the cloud. Our infrastructure environments evolve to keep up with our growing needs for stability, scalability, and geographic equitability as we expand our global solutions and need your leadership. Additionally, this role will lead the design of expansion projects, oversee the hiring of staff to support new capabilities, and develop existing team members to adapt to the evolving needs of the company.Working alongside the Support Operations and Application Operations Department, as well as in collaboration with security and cloud platform teams, this role will foster a culture of independently delivering on complex infrastructure projects, as well as helping others meet their project goals. You are expected to be comfortable with the tools, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques related to the role of this department and serve as both a people and technical leader within this space.This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. Meet Your Future Team : The Infrastructure team is a key pillar of the Technology Operations department. It is responsible for providing core connectivity, hosting, business continuity, and technology platforms for a wide audience ranging from experienced developers through to non-technical end users. Your team consists of technical infrastructure professionals in early and developed phases of their career.

If you were in the Manager, Network Engineering role now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing :

  • Managing, developing, and monitoring our office networks, including performance, capacity, and redundancy for existing and new physical corporate locations
  • Leading the management, backups, and hosting of stateful servers located on premise, and in the cloud
  • Working closely with the cloud team on our cloud networking environment to ensure efficient and secure design, as well as effective integration with our physical networks
  • Facilitating transformational change in our local distribution facilities with new standards of network availability and latency
  • Working with local and remote teams to gain a high degree of familiarity with the services we currently host, as well as those provided to us by our international partners
  • Managing the department budget and drive annual and quarterly infrastructure budgeting tasks
  • Understanding and meeting our obligations to leadership around security, reporting, and business continuity
  • Working closely with the security team on security so that our SIEM can monitor all appropriate traffic and user activities. This role is responsible to ensure those are captured, and collaboratively ensures anomalies are followed up on

Here are some of the things you could be working on in the future :

  • Collaborating closely with our security department to replace the firewall solutions in various locations
  • Improving our observability and reporting for better collaboration with our adjacent teams, and accurate reporting of our system availability
  • Adjusting or replacing our VPN and Endpoint network security tool, in conjunction with our network security team
  • Expanding the use of our SD-WAN solution to allow for more resilient connectivity between systems and the users that depend on this
  • Identifying and implementing updated tools for system coordination, monitoring, and management so we can scale without increasing complexity
  • Building billing and sustainability dashboards to ensure the impact of each team, solution, and initiative
  • Developing our multi-cloud network strategy to ensure workloads can run where needed, with access to the right data

  • You have 3+ years experience in managing infrastructure and network teams in mid-size businesses or enterprise environments
  • You have strong people leadership skills, the ability to navigate interconnected demands on resources, and the ability to use and teach project management skills
  • You are able to communicate clearly and ensure that team members and senior leadership are given timely and relevant updates and context
  • You have experience leading infrastructure in a medium sized or enterprise organization
  • You are comfortable managing both on-premise conventional networks in spaces like offices, logistics environments, and branch offices, as well as integrations and utilization of cloud environments such as AWS and Azure to deliver solutions from the best location
  • You can effectively lead a range of technical professionals from junior roles to experienced engineers, and mentor them through the deployment of new workflows, systems, documentation, and environments
  • You can share principles of good design, robust foundations, and personal skills development to accelerate their team's delivery of modern environments
  • You have a knack for clear documentation, effective SOPs, and repeatable designs
  • You seek out points of failure and opportunities for redundancy and finds ways to address them through all phases of a system’s lifecycle
  • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it
  • 104,000 - $130,000 a yearA reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$104,000 - CAD$130,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and / or training.Please note that the range details above reflect the base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program and benefits that we offer.
