Building Inspector The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh is currently recruiting for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Building Inspector. Job Summary Reporting to the Deputy Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector will be responsible for reviewing building permit applications and plans to ensure compliance with provisions of the Ontario Building Code, applicable law and regulations. The Building Inspector will conduct on-site inspections, investigate building related complaints, and prepare reports and recommendations for appropriate action. This position will require the Building Inspector to use good judgement and discernment when issue Orders as contraventions are noted and work towards a path of compliance when possible and escalate enforcement when required. The Building Inspector will be required to establish and maintain positive working relations with the public, professionals and Town staff. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants are required to have completed a College Diploma as a Construction, Architectural or Civil Technologist, or equivalent related discipline including trades experience with minimum three (3) years relevant work experience. The ideal candidate will have a valid BCIN administered by Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing with successful completion of the General Legal examination. The ideal candidate shall continue working towards obtaining all required qualifications such as House, Plumbing – House, HVAC – House, On-Site Sewage, Small Buildings, Large Buildings, Plumbing – All Buildings, Structural and Building Services. Must have a valid class “G” Driver’s License in good standing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with general competency with technology and computer software. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a Certified Building Code Official or Building Code Qualification (CBCO or BCQ) designation from the Ontario Building Officials Association. In addition, the preferred candidate will have wide-ranging knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), the Building Code Act, building construction and other relevant regulations and legislation.
