OVERVIEW
Provides quality laboratory testing in the Core Lab/ Hematology by observing the highest standards of accuracy, efficiency and safety according to established procedures and policies (IQMH Standards). Ensures that the MLT's and Lab Technicians in the Core Lab/Hematology department of Lab Medicine adhere to the above standards. Maintains open lines of communication with the Managers of Lab Medicine, staff in other lab areas and clinical areas. Maintains and updates procedure manuals and teaching/training material.
EDUCATION
- Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technologist program
- Current active registration with CMLTO is required
- Advanced certification with the CSMLS in Hematology or equivalent preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum three to five years clinical experience in Core Lab/Hematology, preferred, with demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge in problem solving and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated expertise in Haematology, including strong theoretical knowledge and proficiency in peripheral blood smear review, required
- Demonstrated working knowledge in Chemistry and Blood Bank required
- Strong demonstrated leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate and function under pressure
- Good punctuality, work ethic and attendance record required
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Demonstrate interest in continuing personal and professional growth.
- Mature responsible judgment with demonstrated critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly, teach, problem solve and organize.
- Self-motivated with the ability to guide and motivate staff
- Ability to lead work well in cooperation with co-workers and other departments.
- Flexibility and willingness to work as part of team.
- Good work and attendance record required.
