Job description

What you’ll do in the role

  • Provide care on a full time, part time (respite) or emergency basis to our children and youth
  • Providing care for an undetermined amount of time, as some placements are only a couple of days / weeks long, while others can be several years, placements are circumstantial to each child and familial needs.
  • Be able to meet the needs of our children and youth including nutrition, education, medical care, a loving and nurturing home environment free of hazards and harm.
  • Be able to provide love, nurture, support, and stability for children for the time they are placed in your care
  • Provide care through either a Customary Care Agreement, through Kinship Care Services or as a Foster Parent

  • What you bring to the table

  • Education or experience in child and youth, psychology, sociology, behaviour, indigenous studies, or social work would be an asset
  • A willingness to learn how to meet the physical, biological, emotional and psychological needs of children and youth
  • A passion for wanting to be a helper and make a difference in the lives of those in need
  • Ability to work with Kunuwanimano’s dynamic team
  • Ability to be flexible in schedule to ensure a child and youths needs are being met, and a commitment to this
  • Having a desire to love, accept and parent any child or youth, with optimism, tolerance, patience and consistency
  • A willingness to work collaboratively with our First Nations for the best interest of children and youth
  • An understanding of the importance of cultural practices and a willingness and commitment to ensuring children and youth get to exercise their traditions
  • Must be willing to complete all the required documentation needed by the ministry and the agency
