Description :

The Department of Surgery, University of Toronto is conducting a search for the Chair of its Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.

The successful candidate must have an established record of scholarly achievement and be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto.

This appointment is for a five-year term, with the possibility of renewal for a second five-year term after review. The effective date of this appointment is September 1, 2024, but can be flexible, depending on the candidate’s circumstances.

The Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery has 77 faculty members, spanning five fully affiliated teaching hospitals and four community affiliated teaching hospitals and currently has 23 residents and 22 fellows.

The Division Chair is responsible for all teaching and research aspects of the academic program. As they also play a central coordinating role in recruitment for clinical care and overseeing the overall well-being and professional culture within the University Division, the Division Chair will be expected to set aside dedicated time for this position.

The successful candidate will possess prior leadership experience in hospital-based, University, or has organized plastic and reconstructive surgery programs and has an established record of scholarly achievement.

The successful candidate will have proven success as a positive role model and mentor in the surgical community. Evidence of excellence in teaching, research, and administration is required.

The preferred hospital site for the Chair’s clinical activities is to be negotiated with the successful candidate, should they be an external candidate.

Candidates must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or hold international equivalent), and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The successful candidate will receive a stipend from the University Department of Surgery, which, in addition to their fee-for-service earnings and hospital-based support, will comprise an annual gross income of approximately $400,000 - $600,000.
