Our client in Halton Region, ON is actively looking for a Senior Buyer to join their team.
Role Overview :
This role is responsible for leading and executing complex procurement activities involving high-value, high-risk commodities and services. The position plays a key role in supplier performance, cost optimization, risk mitigation, and compliance, while supporting broader supply chain and program objectives. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally, negotiate sophisticated agreements, and contribute to strategic sourcing initiatives in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Manage and execute purchase orders for critical commodities, services, and complex procurements with a focus on supplier quality, cost efficiency, and total cost of ownership.
- Prepare, issue, and administer moderate to high-risk purchase orders and agreements, ensuring all commitments are properly reviewed, documented, and approved in accordance with internal policies.
- Identify contractual and commercial risks and mitigate them through effective negotiation of terms and conditions.
- Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to support supply chain strategy, commodity planning, pricing analysis, market trend evaluation, and material availability.
- Coordinate purchasing activities with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services.
- Support proposal and program activities by developing procurement strategies and innovative sourcing solutions.
- Process purchase requisitions, purchase orders, change orders, and supplier quotations.
- Conduct cost and price analyses for procurements involving elevated value, complexity, and risk.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, quality standards, and performance requirements for complex procurements and agreements.
- Track cost, schedule, and scope of assigned procurements to ensure optimal value and performance.
- Identify and qualify new suppliers when existing sources are no longer competitive.
- Recommend cost-reduction initiatives, alternative sourcing options, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with suppliers and quality teams to investigate and resolve quality-related issues. Conduct regular presentations with suppliers
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Provide guidance or coordination support to other procurement staff as needed.
- Conduct supplier site visits when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience :
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and / or APICS certification required.years of relevant experienceDeep expertise in assigned commodities with advanced analytical and decision-making capabilities.Strong judgment and ability to operate effectively within defined policies and procedures.Proven ability to resolve complex issues using sound professional judgment, creativity, and business acumen.Advanced project management knowledge and application.Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Strong presentation, communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.Extensive knowledge of supply management principles and their practical application.In-depth understanding of government contracting requirements, including FAR / DFARS, contractual flow-downs, and compliance obligations.Experience working with ERP / MRP systems in a regulated procurement environment.Proven negotiation skills with the ability to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.Experience mentoring or supporting other buyers in negotiation activities.Ability to meet CGP requirements.If you meet the above qualifications, please submit your resume.
