Job Description
The position of Material Engineer will perform concrete and material review and acceptance functions for the quality team of the Ontario Transit Group for the Ontario Line South Project.
- Review mix designs for variety of concrete, shotcrete, grout, asphalt & masonry mixes against project output specifications and provide acceptance in a timely manner.
- Visit off site facilities to witness performance testing during mix design evaluation as necessary.
- Review material test data for all other construction materials such as earth, granular and ensure that provided test data are satisfying relevant project output specification requirements.
- Review product specification provided by subcontractors and suppliers for all material, fitting & equipment for station buildings and ensure that those specifications are satisfying the relevant project output specifications.
- Prepare and update the material acceptance process / procedure for the project, in coordination with the design teams.
- Coordinate with design teams for all material related activities.
- Coordinate with Construction Quality and Quality Control Staff to ensure all delivered material satisfying required project requirements.
- Sign off on Inspection Test Plans for material acceptance related line items.
- Initiate Non-Conformance Reports against relevant parties when material related deficiencies or non-conformances are identified.
- Perform root cause analysis and initiate Corrective Action measures in order to eliminate recurring of the same deficiencies / Non conformities again.
- Attend design development and project meetings as necessary.
- All other Material & Quality related duties as assigned.

Be a Professional Engineer registered with Professional Engineers Ontario.
Minimum 10 years’ experience as Material Engineer for a mega rail, transit and transportation projects in the province of Ontario.Certification as a quality professional from certifying bodies (e.g. successful completion of an ISO 9001 : 2015 Lead Auditor Training Course) would be an asset.Reports directly to the Quality Director or designee.Assists and works in conjunction with the Quality Team and other departments for the successful delivery of the project.Qualifications
Be a Professional Engineer registered with Professional Engineers Ontario.Minimum 10 years’ experience as Material Engineer for a mega rail, transit and transportation projects in the province of Ontario or a combination of 3-5 years of solid experience in these types of projects locally and similar projects worldwide.Certification as a quality professional from certifying bodies (e.g. successful completion of an ISO 9001 : 2015 Lead Auditor Training Course) would be an asset.Confident and comfortable speaking with the client and various stakeholders internally and externally as well as subcontractors and other important members of the over all project team.Willingness and comfort to make decisions, set standards, educate others and be the SME in all things related to concrete.Work well in a team as well as independently, find solutions to any roadblocks and know when to ask for assistance if a matter needs a different approach.Reports directly to the Quality Director or designee.Assists and works in conjunction with the Quality Team and other departments for the successful delivery of the project.Additional Information
