The School of Global Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Experiential Education in Global Health.
This is a Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) to the teaching stream for a three-year term to commence July 1, 2025.
- The successful candidate will have experience teaching global health, public health, or related disciplines at the university level with strong knowledge of global health issues and approaches;
- experience with interdisciplinary and innovative teaching methods; demonstrated ability to teach medium and large classes, including blended learning environments;
demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization in teaching and learning; and a demonstrated commitment to enhancing student experiences inside and / or outside the classroom through experiential education.
The successful candidate will be expected to enhance teaching and learning through creative experiential educational opportunities inside and / or outside the classroom.
They will contribute to the core and elective courses of the global health undergraduate program. A full list of courses is available here.

- GH 3100 (Communicable Diseases and Care); GH 3200 (Creating Intercultural Safety); GH 3550 (Global Health Architecture);
- GH 3740 (Health Care Planning for Communities); GH 4100 (Policy and Program Evaluation in Global Health); GH 4200 (Global Health Governance and Leadership);
as well as GH 4600 (Practicum Professionalization Seminar); GH 4601 (Global Health Practicum); and GH 4602 (Applied Global Health Research Capstone).
Candidate Qualifications :
- Degree : PhD or PhD equivalent (e.g., MD) from the health sciences, social sciences, or humanities and a record of academic experience in a global health-related field is required.
- Teaching :
- A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g., university level teaching
- A strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to experiential education teaching, learning and program design, and evidence of good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching.
Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred.
The successful candidate will be familiar with a range of pedagogical, philosophical, and disciplinary lenses relevant to global health and demonstrated expertise in, at least, one of the following : health promotion, population health, social determinants of health, health advocacy, global governance, and / or intersectional, anti-colonial, or anti-oppression frameworks.

Additional : Experience working outside of academia in global health policy or practice would be an asset but is not required.
