Job Description : Unit Care Provider (UCP)
Location : Retirement Home, Fort Erie
Position Type : Full-Time / Part-Time
Reports to : Director of Care or Nursing Supervisor
Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Unit Care Provider (UCP) to join our team at our retirement home in Fort Erie, On. As a UCP, you will provide essential personal care and support to residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being. This is a rewarding role that involves delivering high-quality care to our seniors while fostering a safe and comfortable environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal Care :
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Help residents with mobility, including transferring to and from beds, chairs, and wheelchairs.
- Monitor residents' physical conditions and report changes to the nursing staff.
- Health Monitoring :
- Assist in the administration of prescribed medication as directed by the nursing staff.
- Take and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration rates.
- Assist in the implementation of care plans and communicate any concerns to the nursing team.
- Resident Support :
- Provide companionship and emotional support to residents, offering comfort and engaging in meaningful conversations.
- Assist with meal preparation and feeding, as necessary, ensuring that dietary needs and preferences are met.
- Encourage residents to participate in recreational activities and provide assistance when needed.
- Safety and Hygiene :
- Ensure the safety of residents by adhering to all infection control, safety protocols, and organizational policies.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in residents’ rooms and common areas.
- Ensure that equipment and assistive devices are in good working condition.
- Team Collaboration :
- Work closely with other healthcare providers, including nurses and personal support workers, to ensure the highest standard of care.
- Document care provided and any changes in residents’ condition accurately and in a timely manner.
Qualifications and Skills
Education & Experience :Completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) program or equivalent healthcare training.Previous experience in long-term care or retirement homes is preferred.CPR and First Aid certification is required.Skills & Attributes :Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with residents, families, and team members.Empathy, patience, and compassion for seniors and individuals with varying needs.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Good organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect residents’ privacy.Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.Job Types : Full-time, Part-time
