Touchstone Institute is a non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors and receives financial support from the Government of Ontario, in addition to generating revenue through direct business to business contracts seeking competency assessment and learning solution services. It’s the largest assessment centre of its kind in Canada, providing professional competency assessment and learning programs to support the delivery of high-quality health care. Touchstone Institute works closely with physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers who provide subject matter expertise to assess and improve the level of competency across individual practice. Touchstone Institute has become an integral part of the commitment to internationally trained health professionals seeking entry into training and practice in Ontario and has expanded to provide assessment, certification, and quality assurance programs for practitioners across Canada.
Purpose
The Associate Clinical Director will support the Clinical Director in providing clinical leadership and clinical guidance for Touchstone Institute education and assessment programs, input into program design, oversee candidate assessment processes and lead quality assurance and improvement initiatives. This role ensures continuity, succession planning, and operational excellence in the delivery of high-quality assessments and learning to support Touchstone Institute’s efforts to optimize health workforce contributions in Canada. The Associate Director will provide coverage and backup for the Clinical Director at various times throughout the year.
This position reports directly to the Clinical Director. Both the Clinical Director and Associate Director hold shared accountability to the Chief Executive Officer for strategic alignment and clinical operational oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical and Program Leadership
- Support the Clinical Director in overseeing the clinical integrity of educational and assessment programs
- Represent the Clinical Director in internal and external meetings as needed
- Support the Clinical Director and CEO, and Management for strategic program planning
- Support Management and the Clinical Director in the clinical governance of educational and assessment programs
- Provide clinical input into Touchstone Institute policy and program decisions
Program Design & Quality Assurance and Improvement
Oversee and implement a comprehensive quality assurance and improvement process to ensure assessment validity and ongoing program enhancementsReview and provide feedback on Touchstone Institute assessment tools, orientation materials, and program documentationSupport the development and implementation of standards, policies and best practicesEngagement – Stakeholder and Practice Ready Ontario Candidates and Assessor
Attend organizational stakeholder meetings, including with regulatory bodies, academic partners, and government representatives as neededSupport the Clinical Director in preparing presentations and reports for the Executive Team and Board of DirectorsChair the Practice Ready Ontario (PRO) Assessment CommitteeOversee the PRO candidate selection process and ensure alignment with program criteriaParticipate in PRO assessor recruitment, training, and orientationReview PRO candidate appeals and contributes to decision-making processesIn collaboration with Clinical Director, support Regional Lead Assessors in their role and meet with PRO assessors and / or candidates as necessaryServe as a clinical liaison with assessors and field sitesOperational Support
Collaborate with Touchstone Institute staff to ensure effective and efficient program deliveryProvide clinical oversight during key program components (e.g., orientation, assessment periods)Public Relations and Media
Support the Clinical Director and CEO in media engagements, including interviews and public statements, as neededReceive media training and be willing to conduct media interviews in English and / or FrenchContribute to the development of briefing materials and key messages for external communicationsResearch and Knowledge Mobilization
Contribute to the design and development of research papers and other research activitiesParticipate in research presentations as requiredTranslate clinical insights into actionable tools for stakeholdersEngage in dissemination activities that promote the uptake of program learnings and research findingsSupport the development of plain-language summaries of research and program data for use by community organizations, regulators, and the public.Qualifications
Licensed Family Physician in OntarioHold active Certification in the College of Family Physicians of CanadaGraduate degree and / or experience in medical education, assessment, or health system leadershipStrong understanding of the Practice Ready Assessment model and regulatory environmentBilingualism (English / French) and / or experience working in rural or remote Ontario communities is strongly preferredExcellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skillsNote : The position is primarily remote; however, you will be expected to attend certain meetings in person.
