Position Description :

We an immediate need for a qualified and experienced Protection & Control Relay Technician or Engineer (you must be hands-on) to join our team in British Columbia, onsite in Fort Saint John. This position will involve working on-site two weeks with a week off. It offers top pay and other benefits. Also, it will give you the chance to enhance your skills by working on technology such as :

500kV and 13.8kV Equipment and Protections

  • 5L16, T02 - protections - Future will be 5L17 and T03 and the spare transformer.
  • SEL-411L and SEL-487E
  • 13.8kV breaker and disconnect commissioning.
  • CT's and VT's (secondary injections, low ohms loops and checks, CTTB checks, Primary Injections)
  • Potentially T02 and 13.8kv Equipment

Unit 3

  • Gen Protections, stator ground protection, DFR testing. SEL-300G
  • Interface with hydro CPC's and Voith from their equipment and devices to the protections and control as well as 13.8kV equipment
  • CT's and VT's (secondary injections, low ohms loops and checks, CTTB checks, Primary Injections)
  • Setting up the communication rings and testing with NERC CIP and Network engineers to all the unit devices.
  • IRIG-B
  • Mechanical and Electrical Wet Commissioning to protection when unit is being online commissioned
  • Unit 4

  • Unit PAM - SCADA / Control PLC - schneider modicon PLC's and Viejo.
  • Vibration Monitoring,
  • Synchronizer testing.
  • Involved with Mechanical commissioning and electrical commissioning of unit once CNE's to start online commissioning.
  • INOG 4 Gate commissioning and controls. Be present when wet commissioning / operation of gates when required.
  • Other

  • DFR commissioning the full system.
  • STN-PAM and involvement with the systems that go through the PAM and PLC and HMI. schneider modicon PLC's and Viejo.
  • Generic support for design items and issues finding after equipment / units being placed online and working with engineering on solutions.
  • NERC CIP and security for the Plant
  • Plant Fibre Rings and connections to devices, troubleshooting with Network Engineers
  • Job Responsibilities and Expectations :

  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems and associated communication equipment.
  • Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breaker changeouts.
  • Perform end-to-end relay testing using Doble ProTesT software to verify carrier and fiber systems.
  • Perform electro-mechanical relay testing of GE, Westinghouse, ITE, etc.
  • Perform solid state relay testing of Schweitzer, Basler, Multilin, SEL, Beckwith, Circuit Shield, Arreva, Schneider, etc.
  • Read and interpret control prints, writing diagrams, and relaying schematics.
  • Conduct differential and distance relay testing.
  • Assist in developing written standard commissioning, testing and maintenance procedures for protective relaying, DFR's, RTU's, IED's, Distribution Automation and associated communication systems.
  • Manage projects onsite throughout the duration and effectively interface and own the relationship with customers and their vendors
  • Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; prefer training from technical school, apprenticeship, armed services or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology.
  • Related experience in the areas of transmission line and substation protective relay control system and SCADA / Automation checkout, installation, testing and troubleshooting; an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Must have testing skills and understand fundamental electrical testing procedures.
  • Need to have knowledge of differential and phase angles.
  • Experience with RTS or Protest relaying testing software desirable.
  • Understand three phase power and phase angles.
  • Must have ability to use Doble 6150, 2253 & 2250 and Megger MPRT & EZ CT 2000.
  • Must be able to demonstrate SAFE electrical troubleshooting skills using basic and advanced test equipment.
