Photonics Engineer – Design & Testing

Location : Brampton, Ontario

Duration : 4–12 months

Level : Undergraduate / Master’s (Co-op)

About the Role :

Assist in developing and testing optical components such as filters, LEDs, and waveguides for sensor systems. Work on simulating and aligning photonic paths in lab setups.

Key Responsibilities :

Simulate and design optical waveguides

Assist in photonic testing setups (lasers, LEDs)

Analyze light signals and sensor outputs

Perform calibration and adjustments for accuracy

Document test results and device performance

Core Skills :

Photonics or optics coursework

Familiarity with Lumerical, Zemax, or COMSOL

Laser alignment, light source handling

Optical measurement and safety protocols

Soft Skills :

Precision and attention to lab detail

Curiosity and eagerness to explore optical tech

Documentation and data interpretation

Ability to follow safety standards and lab SOPs
