Unit Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is a community of 15,000 staff, physicians, researchers and volunteers that proudly serves southwestern Ontario residents. As part of Hamilton Health Sciences Engineering Department is an integral part of the support services, providing facilities maintenance services to all buildings, wards and departments. (General, JHCC, JCC, St. Peters, WLMH and McMaster Children’s Hospital sites.) The Engineering staff is comprised of numerous and varied trades, including Stationary Engineers in the power plant, Electricians, Plumbers, Millwrights, Carpenters, Painters, etc. all contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the facilities. The department’s goals can best be summarized as SERVICE EXCELLENCE.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Electrician is responsible for installing, testing, inspecting, maintaining and repairing lighting and power systems, equipment and appliances in accordance with governing Electrical Codes. Performs other duties as may be assigned. Functions according to the job description for Electricians. May be assigned to work at any HHS site.

Monday to Friday; days

Qualifications

1. Current Province of Ontario Construction and Maintenance Electrician or Industrial Electrician Certificate of Qualification

2. Minimum 5 years experience as a qualified Tradesperson

3. Demonstrated experience in the maintenance, repair and installation of all types of electrical equipment

4. Demonstrated ability to differentiate colours

5. Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English

6. Demonstrated ability to use tools and equipment of the trade

7. Must be willing to provide own tools of the trade

8. Demonstrated ability to bend, crawl, lift heavy items, climb and work from ladders and scaffolding

9. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in areas that are cold, hot, dusty, dirty, noisy, amongst machinery, at elevated levels and have cramped quarters
