REINTEGRATION NAVIGATOR POSITION

Job Type : Full time : 8 : 30am – 4 : 30pm Monday to Friday with some flexibility.

Location : Brandon Correctional Centre, John Howard Society of Brandon and the Transitional Housing and Healing Program in Brandon.

Salary : $25.00 – $28.00 per hour. Pension and Benefits after Probationary Period.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of both the Program Manager and the Executive Director of The John Howard Society of Brandon, the Reintegration Navigator serves as a consistent and reliable presence at Brandon Correctional Centre (BCC) for individuals both during incarceration and throughout their transition back into the community. The Reintegration Navigator supports offenders by helping them connect with appropriate services, offering guidance, and maintaining regular contact to ensure they remain supported and meaningfully connected as they reintegrate into the community of Brandon.

This role includes assisting individuals in navigating the carceral experience, providing advocacy when required, delivering informational and release-focused programming, and supporting release planning. The Reintegration Navigator also facilitates connections to community resources and provides relevant information and support to Custody Centre staff to promote successful release and reintegration. In addition, the Reintegration Navigator is responsible for completing intakes, referrals, and connections for the Transitional Housing and Healing Program (THHP).

The goal of the Reintegration Navigator position at the John Howard Society of Brandon is to enhance community reintegration and navigate the gaps in release from provincial corrections by ensuring coordinated services to support individuals re-entering the Community, which may include housing, addictions recovery needs, physical and mental health supports, including providing referrals to culturally appropriate agencies, programs and services, while maintaining compliance with the Brandon Correctional Centre safety policies and procedures of operations.

Job Duties

• Acting as the primary contact for JHSB at BCC regarding community resources.
• Receiving, reviewing, and forwarding referrals to service providers within the Centre or within the Community.
• Completing intake meetings and participating in team meetings at BCC, Transitional Housing and at the John Howard Society.
• Attend Case conferencing meetings on release planning from custody as required.
• Conducting needs assessments and HIFIS entries for release planning and Transitional Housing and Healing Program.
• Assisting inmates and correctional staff with identification applications, federal and provincial benefits applications, and connecting them to community resources.
• Supporting coordinated case management at BCC and community agencies.
• Facilitating Ready 4 Release and / or Crossroads Program at Brandon Correctional Centre.
• Facilitating JHS core programs, post-incarceration support groups or follow up support, this may include family support groups for those that have incarcerated individuals.
• Participating in THHP duties which may include move-in assistance, intake support, and programming.
• Collaborating and providing coverage for the Program Manager duties while in their absence as well as providing coverage at the THHP, if needed.
• Collaborating with Men’s Resource Centre and providing coverage as needed.
• Performing additional duties as assigned.
