Reporting to the Magnum Infrastructure Operations Manager and under the direction of the MI Supervisor, the Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, performing shop maintenance and supporting the infrastructure business. This position will also be expected to support other service lines in the off season. This position is considered to be a safety-sensitive positio n.
This position has a start date of April 2026.
Job Responsibilities
The Equipment Operator role encompasses three levels of seniority based on skillset and experience. Specific definitions on the levels are as follows :
Equipment Operator 1 : Entry-Level Operator
- Basic operation of equipment.
- Fundamental operation of vehicles requiring a standard driver's license (Class 5).
- Basic compaction techniques using rollers and compactors.
- Skidsteer operation for material handling.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety.
- Emphasis on learning and gaining experience with standard equipment.
- Supervised work and following established procedures.
- Entry point for individuals with limited experience.
Equipment Operator 2 : Intermediate Operator
Increased complexity and specialization in equipment operation.Operation of more specialized equipment like Wirtgen WR Series (basic), steel breakdown rollers, and dozers (basic).Screed operation, critical for asphalt paving.Finish steel roller operation (asphalt).Increased understanding of material properties, and compaction procedures.Requires a higher level of precision and control.More independent work and decision-making.Understanding of specific construction processes (e.g., asphalt paving).Equipment Operator 3 : Advanced Operator / Specialist
Highly specialized equipment operation and advanced skills.Operation of advanced equipment like CRi 380, pavers, and finish-grade dozers and graders.Advanced application spreader operation.Wirtgen WR Series operation (foaming), requiring specialized knowledge.Expertise in achieving precise grades and finishes.Advanced understanding of material properties, and how different materials react to different compaction techniques.Requires a high level of expertise and experience.Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.Training and mentoring other operators.Critical role in ensuring project quality and efficiency.Specialized knowledge of advanced equipment functions.Operations
Operate heavy equipment such as, dozers, reclaimers, packers, agricultural tractors, skid steers in an earthworks environment (i.e. base work, road construction, pad construction)Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipmentFollow all safety protocols and site-specifc guidelines.Assist with loading and un-loading of equipment and materialsWork with the site Supervisor to complete projects efficientlyMaintain equipment logs, safety information, and maintenance records using mobile app(s)General
Participate in training and development activities.Other related duties as required.Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required :A valid driver’s license (non-graduated) with a clean driver’s record.Physically capable of moving / lifting heavy objects up to 23 kg., bending, standing, and climbing repeatedly for extended periods.Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time and in all types of weather conditions.Willing to travel for assignments, for up to two weeks at a time. Accommodations will be provided.Able to work long hours on a 15 days on, 6 days off schedule, including overtime and travel up to two weeks at a time.Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.Strong attention to detailLooking For :Worked in a similar environment (shop sites, remote locations).Interest in getting a Class 1 (Canada) / class A CDL (U.S.) license and progressing within the organization.Familiar with operating and maintaining equipment.Desire to learn.Strong work ethic, positive attitude, reliable, and dependable.Flexible and able to adapt to change.Understands the importance of safety.Demonstrated initiative and results orientated.Team player and customer service focused.Demonstrated initiative and results orientated.Assets :Previous experience in the infrastructure or oil and gas industryPossesses safety tickets.Mechanically inclined with the ability to perform maintenance on trucks.Magnum Services is an equal opportunity employer.
